Im about to check out here. Headed down to Coral Springs for Spring Break, and Dana is just about here to pick me up. Ramens on the stove for some quick carb stuff before the long 7 hour drive. Lately I've been collecting large sums of music files from friends with my external harddrive, and listening to new music all the time. So i burned a few CD's for the drive and uploaded a clean set on my 1 gig iPod.

February with golden arms! Michael Parenti comes in two weeks, and a possible soul veg feast. It nice to plan events far in advance and take you time with it. Its funny it took me 4 years to learn THAT. For Parenti we had about 6 weeks to get everything ready, and we planned everything out one by one, especially PR. And now we have the Student Farmwork Alliance group starting up and after two meetings it looks like a good group of thinkers. We put together a 9 week time line for Chicago, watch for it, Festival of Resistance, April 13th!

Happy MLK day, much respect for the late reverend. I listened to an Npr piece this afternoon about the union building he was working on when he was assassinated.

It felt like a long three day weekend, abusive partying because everyone excited to be back. Its a good vibe as far as i can see. School is settling in fine. My classes are a bit early in the morning, and theres several of them, but I'll be ok. Im especially looking forward to my Hispanic cinima class, since the movie list looks premium. CPE has some dedicated souls, and thats what its all about. Alexander Cockburn said something to that effect... something like, after the 60's the movement leaders went on to do really good work in nonprofits, small businesses, and even day to day life. I can see my self in 40 years reminiscing the FTAA protest, the tear gas, the rubber bullets.

Without the camera, this will have to suffice...

lets see... this vacation in one run on sentence: Before hitting the streched out highways that connect florida to michigan, I reveled in couch potato fasion reading middle sex and on the road only to discover that words writen pull me less than words spoken, esspecially when they're on vinal or kind throats (like dana's "I hate nice vampires" or grandma jeans elaborate history of her german upright piano), but lets not forget after the snowless embrace of family filled michigan when, in a car with the ladies we watched fireworks and drank the down the travel sized bottles of Kalua and Taquilla rose, hit the beach and kb, dropped 75$ at a club (and a yagerbomb on the floor) and danced on the speakerboxes, only to come full revolution seeing old friends like Melinda, Kevin, the hs crew, and the one and only fish.

Now im back up to tally, for 5 classes, 40 hour work weeks, a new roommate, and my last spring in that one horse college town.

It was such a nice day out I decided to take a strool through frech town and hit up the new vegetarian restaurant on Monroe. Food was great, service was slow and complicated. It made me think about opening a bakery and my aspirations. I got this idea that running a business (esspecially food) needs to be quick and efficient. I got it all wrong! Brake the stallions of my wildest expectations! Rise like lions out of slumber, in unvanquishable number!

It was a weekend to end all weekends, three nights of dance parties, sober, and with cool kids all around. Im considering taking an incomplete in my Social Theory class just to take it again next semester with George Luke, and because I have the two biggest papers due tomorrow in that class. That may be a cop out, but this class, and Luke esspecially, has been the best class I've ever taken, and I wouldnt mind another semester with him. Also, I really need to score an A in that class to balance out the C- in social stat i got last semester.

I rode my bike out to New Leaf yesterday and was stopped by a train rolling down the tracks. I watched car after car, tagged with names and throwup, jammin to some rage against the machine (live and rare bootleg), and thinking about the state im in. Cant wait to get to Kalamazoo, its been on my mind lately. Workin on the White House, painting a mural on the ceiling, making my footprint on the land, redo the roof and walls, build a kitchen and bathroom, a modern day opium den in Kalamazoo. Workin the fair food campaign and maybe some indymedia. Looking forward to it.

CPE has had an event everyday since Sunday, and tomorrow is packed with stuff going on. Megan, Greg, and Carrie all have their graduation shows tomorrow, and Josh's recital, The Rootforce Road show, Colber (but I sold my ticket for 16 dollars). Saturday morning we head out to ft.benning.

And shannon turned 23 yesterday! Brad is only 18. I think brad is the youngest person I know, it really surprised me to find out he was 18. Time really flies!

I remember this day like it was yesterday! It was August 1982 so you guys were 3 years old. I was dating Dad and we went to an Art Fair in Lawrence…the artsy spot of Van Buren County! I wore a flowing purple sundress and thought I was so hot (J). They had artists dressed in huge paper mache heads and Galen was so scared of them. Then there was a puppet show and one of the puppets is in the picture. These puppets were not scary but were as big as you guys and Galen was afraid of them too. You took him over after the show to show him that they were not real. You were explaining it to him like he was soooo much younger than you! You just loved taking care of Galen, being his “big sister”, teaching him, leading him around! We were married about 2 months later…so that was 24 years ago…eeeek!

The holiday on friday gave us a day off classes to hold a CPE retreat at my house. For about 7 hours (with breaks, fo sho) we did workshops and teachins. I did a presentation on the Student Farmwork Alliance and the mcdonalds campaign. After the retreat i went to see Milo's opera (Falstaff) at Rubydimond Auditorium. We all dressed up, so i wore my goodwill suit. I really need a nice suit (not that you cant get a nice suit from goodwill, you just have to look hard). Milo was a great drunk sidekick, and snuck us all in through the stage door, and im fallin hard for Dana, as you can see in the picture, where i look pretty goofy.

Then the yeti party, where dana put my hightops on over her shoes and sported some fly dance moves with me. Saturday we slothed around watching donnie brasco and drinking a bottle of wine in the afternoon. I gotta clean the house and catch up on some homework today. And i forgot to cancel netflicks again, so another month of copious movie watching, and dana is a bigtime movie buff. SOA' next weekend, jon luna comming in town this week, rootforce road show saturday, and next week is thanksgiving. Ok, off to watch the Cowboy bebop movie.

some guy on tennessee street asked me for a ciggarett tonight when I was biking home, so I gave him the whole pack. Then this lady pulled up and and yelled 'hey, got anything other than soap' and laughed really loud. And last Saturday before Halloween these creepy old people were at the house like 3 hours before the party. Someone told me they all just got back from the rainbow gathering, they looked a bit burnt out.

Simon Sedillo was amazing. He's been documenting the resistance in Oaxaca Mexico and the strikes goin on there. A indymedia journalist Brad Will was killed on Friday by paramilitary, which really moved Simon who knows the guy. It seems like a lot of people are talking about Oaxaca now, and theres alot of false media out there. The peoples movement in Oaxaca is responding to corupt and brutal politicians. They have videos of the "paramilitary" and connect them to the Oaxacan police. Actually, it seems like Mexico will use it for a motive to squash the APPO with guns and police. Neolibralism, corporate exploitation, these free trade agreements that have forced Mexico in to an economic depression, the people are sick of it! American need to open their eyes and see it!

So it was raining Friday, pretty hard, so hard the bike race almost didnt happen. But it was postponed and started around 9:30pm. Talloween 2 was a zombie bike race, where the first person to finish alive wins the race, and every check point theres zombies trying to turn you into zombies.

I of coarse, opted for the check point and we put together a zombie dance party. Mike and I really rocked it, and I drank all this wine to really get me dancing. I you know the house, the basement is totally sketchy, and worked perfect as "a seedy opium den" (as some racer said). Im tired, I got to go to bed, so Im cutting to the end, its like 3:16am and i got tons to do in the morning.

Simon partied with us Saturday night.

And yesterday was halloween. CPE meeting went on for like 2 hours, which is WAY to long. Got home and there were these creepy rainbow gathering people in our back yard wating for the party to start (at like 9pm, weirdos). When the party did start, it got pretty fun. Costumes were better on Saturday night, but halloween was one to remember. Pictures...

At the end of the night, and i think my costume just turned into urban casual.

Driving back from Jacksonville at 87 mph resulted in a $200 speeding ticket from one of the nicest cops ever. He even let my expired licence pass, since it was only one month expired. I really got to get that renewed... I was driving out there to pick up Simon Sedillo, and last night he spoke on the social/indigenous movements happening in Oaxaca mexico. Pretty good turn out, plus Dana came from the fsuview, and shes cute, smart, all the good stuff.

Today is the SFA day of action, so we will be flyering at critical mass and dropping off manager letters to mcdonalds. Then back home to make "Golden Bicycle Team" tshirts for tonights bike race, which (i just saw the design) have a picture of Freddy Mercury. The ladies are racing, mimi with her new Bianci Europa, Megan on a red "flash gordon" specialiezd, Shannon on "the shark" blue Trek, and Lindsey on a classic steel schwin. Road bikes totally rock, and im glad to see the mansion representing. For the boys, greg and Bill are working, and I'm hosting a checkpoint here at the mansion: "Zombie Dance Party". Think Shawn of the Dead, and bike racers having to make it through the basement as "zombies" durring a dance party. (ps, I promiss pictures).

Then saturday is another Oaxaca event and saturday night I may just chill at home with Billie. We had a house meeting the other day and talk about cleaning and getting billie on a routine. Its hard being so busy and keeping to a schedule, since it takes me 15 minutes to bike home to walk her. I need more hours in the day!

Last Friday, Friday the 13th, was in a string of bad luck for me. To start it off, Guest Services double booked our space reservation Thursday night. So we all went to Kristi's house to watch the movie go Further. If you havent heard of it, look it up on google and watch the trailer. Its a Ron Mann film with Woody Harrilson. Anyways, we went to Kristi's appartment, and I left my backpack and planner there.

After the movie, Eddy and I biked over to Jenns who was carving pumpkins. I couldnt tell if it was all women intentionally or not, so I didnt stay long. Jenn carved a pumpkin with a feminist fist in it, oh Jenners.

Friday, I slept in through my spanish exam, and decided I had to drop the class. I was late for the first exam, and she gave me a zero on it, so this one really made it impossible for me to pass. On the plus side I dont have so much to do, so I can write emails and post on my blog in the morning.

Bah, the picture tool isn't working this morning. The pics from this weekend's CPE retreat and bonfire will have to wait.

Josh hooked me up at New Leaf last night so Im loaded with food! I decided to shop for quality rather than quantity so i picked up a bit of the following: curry cashews, date coconut rolls, wine, organic avacados, dark italian chocolate, spelt bread, habanero hot sauce, wasabe ginger tamari, and some raw snack bars. It was a long weekend, lots of happenings, so Sunday was pretty relaxed and I liked it that way.

Today I took my Seminole History exam. I felt all right about it, since it was short answer and I could fill in most of my gaps with other pertinant information. I also got back my Environmental Ethics exam: 90%. I emailed my professor after class asking him to include some Vandana Shiva in the ecofeminism lecture.

Then I worked till midnight. Im off to make a sandwich and go to bed.

JK JK Apparently I left my backpack in Jennifer's car. I have my camera back, so wicked. Tonight was fun. Vicotria is in town, visiting from Pensacola, and (even though shes jennifer's best friend / ego nothing would ever happen between us) she cute as hell. So we went to first friday with Ryan. There were so many people there, it was a bit out of control.

We ended up at the Mansion playing a dice game. More and more people showed up (Mimi won 36 dollars last round!) until i retiered to my kitchen for grilled cheese and taquitos. Milo was esspecially enjoyable. So much screaming from the poarch, all over one dollar. These kids are so routy...

Last night I dreamed I was walkin around with some kids and someone passed me a joint, only, it was "organic extacy" in some grass form. Smoked it, got stoned, and woke up. It was weird, I woke and my lip was swolen to the size of a grape. So I took billie for a long walk and ate some breakfast, and now its not swolen at all.

Yesterday I went to Olive Garden for Jessie's birthday. I havent been there in years, and it seems waaay more expensive than I remember. Afterwards I biked over to Doug Shrocks house to meet with him and Daphne. Schrock is a professor I had a few semesters back, the Global Justice Movement. He's really smart and in tune to a lot of the shit going on in this country. If I decide to go to grad school I would ask him to write me a letter.

2006 Encuentro

This weekend Maria, Sarah, and I went down to Immokalee for the 2006 Encuentro (that's the conference held by Student Farm Worker Alliance). The weekend was packed with organizing and campaign strategy, mostly centered around the Taco Bell victory and the upcoming campaign against McDonalds. For anyone who is unaware, McD's is a large buyer of tomatoes harvested in Immokalee, and by pressing them we can improve the working conditions for the farm workers there. The Coalition of Immokalee Workers works closely with SFA, so the campaign supports the workers goals.

The SFA and CIW organized the weekend impeccably. They covered every aspect of info distribution, inclusiveness, empowerment, and education. Oh yea, and a kick ass dance party. At Tuesday's meeting we'll talk a bit more about the Encuentro and how we can move forward with the SFA and CIW.

It was great to see Cande and John Luna again, its been a while. I slept a couple nights at Cande's house, met his mother, and practiced my Spanish more than I have all semester. We ate lunch at this tiny Mexican place called the Tacarrita #2 (just down the street from Tacarrita #1), and it was definitely some of the best Mexican food I've ever had.

Friday night Ryan milo and I went skateboarding on campus. There was this hardcore show in the Union, and all these boring hardcore kids and the boring music. After skating around for a while we met Lindsey up at waterworks, and i spent toooo much money. We should have hit a gas station and gotten drunk for 4 bucks. Danced. This whole dancing thing, ive been tryin it out lately. Was hungover Saturday morning.

Worked all weekend on the catalog, and didnt finish until tonight. Last night Milo got me out of the office to go to a party. The party was cool, lots of people I sort of knew, and small, and free drinks. We played Clemson yesterday, so the town was a bit... beligerent. And obnixious. Was hungover Sunday morning. I gotta remember to drink more water before i go to bed.

That word has consumed my life. Even now, stoned, I feel the need to be productive. Tonight was fun. Ryan, Milo and I just cruised around town with not much to do. We brought skate boards, even though I dont really know how to skateboard. I really just try to sail off ledges and stairs and land, balancing on the skateboard.

Did I say I was attacked by ants? Yea, the other day. And now my feet are covered in scabs and blisters. We were all going to do our laundry down on the corner, and after a good splif Mimi sparked up, I was standing outside looking at the firepit that had filled in with rain water. It was full of insects and dragonflies and floating leaves. I was so drawn in by the micro-ecosystem that i didnt realize the ants pileing up on my feet. Now i suffer, oh life is shit.

JK JK, life is great! We went to waterworks after the skateboarding and I landed some bold dance moves on Moniek. And Lindsay entertained us with her un-inhibited candor! Oh Allen Ginsburg why do I only want to read you? Its really just this one poem, something about the transcription of organ music, and it talks about a plant and how it is so basic. It only has a desire to exist, and is perfect in it's simplicity. Oh cannibis, so simple and perfect. Blouuugh, the best part of tonight was when we stopped at some random house to see if the guy was selling any coke. We were way off, and somehow I had to do the talking, and i was totally sketched out. The guy was all like "im not into that sort of think, but dont worry i wont call the cops on you".

And tonight, Im heading over to Milo's. A bunch of kids are going to this techno hardcore band. Its free, so im in, with a couple bruskies. Sunday Mike, Luis and I will probably ride out to a sink hole and swim. Fall is comming, and with it cold weather and halloween. Fall is definately my favorite season. It starts out with a burning man and a birthday. Get to try out a new age which somehow placebos me into maturity every year. Halloween rolls around with cooler weather. People seem to settle a bit, esspecially in the classes and routine of everything. Then it gets cold.

I really need to move back to Michigan. Which, actually, I've been thinking alot about lately. Grandma has an extra room, and she could probably use the help around the house/ driving to the store. Billie... well, we'd have to work something out, shes been so good lately. But lots of people play with her and walk her here, shes pretty spoiled for a dog.

I dont exactally smoke ciggaretts right now. This summer I smoke a bunch though, and when I got my new camera i spent alot of time taking pictures of the poarch and smoking pot. A summer of sloth. But it was much needed, after a very stressing spring semester. But now I just bum them off people, which i bet gets really anoying. But Ryan actually gets me to smoke more, I think so he can have someone to leave places to go smoke with. Thats cool though, but ive always said i dont have an adictive personality.

Started hanging out with Jennifer again. Shes depressing sometimes, but still really fun to hang out with. I have got to get new friends though. Since I've dated Jennifer I've been so sick of overanalyzing feminism and male chauvinism. Weird that I got into this thing with Sara Sky cause we talk so much about gender and queer shit. All of it really interests me, but I really want to cut loose and go crazy and drug out and do alot of CPE stuff and know lots and lots and lots of people. What like 7 months left in this town? Is that right?

And after Tallahassee, where too? I dont think im ready to work. I have to go back to school. Or else I have to join the real world and i know, I know, that I wont make enough money and I'll just get sucked into the grind. Or not. But I want to start a business, and Im too young still. Well, 23 when i graduate, I guess thats not that young.

Work on CPE stuff alot today. Work up a bit late and got sara to take me out for breakfast, like a sly conman. Tried to give her gas money, she denied. The girl has no gas in her car, thats gotta be pride or something. Spent a couple hours in CPE trying to pull in speakers and cosponsors for this Israel Lebanon event next week. Its been pretty intense, just talking to tons of people and getting "contacts" everywhere. Im trying to use all the staff and all the "resources" they offer, like asking for advice on event planning. They really like that.

But yea, class, then the CPE meeting. On top of all that I didnt have any time to print out fliers for the meeting, and thats when I realized that over the past week or so, ive taken on this event practically alone. Jessie helped at first, but I think i just kinda took over and kept her updated. Anyways, it definately became a problem when I didnt have enough time to do everything. Gotta fix that.

So much activity lately, so now i feel like just sitting at home and relaxing. Still, no school tomorrow mean Sunday turns into a party night. 80's night at Brothers? Little Miss Sunshine?

Sarah Sky is brilliant, and if anything i hope to learn as much as i can from her durring this period of infactuation. Ive been interested in alot of Ecofeminism this summer, actually reading about it and realizing alot about myself and my own idologies. But Sarah talks about Queer theory, and though I havent read or researched it at all, it sounds very empoweing and liberating, for me atleast. Basically, I could identify as a lesbian rather than a straight male, or a lesbian male. I guess being a fan of Ani Difranco and Judy Grahn and Maya Angelo doesnt make you a lesbian, but it makes ya think.

I uploaded a whole album of pictures i took this morning onto Facebook too.

Yesterday I went to check out Tomatoe Land when Bret was working. I was impressed by the variety of hierlooms and local produce, and I bought a pomagranate, hierloom tomatoes, two pears, and a bag of collards from gainsville. Last night i cooked the collards with coconut mike, ginger, and some tomatoes and it tasted exquisit, probably the best dish i have in my book.

I decided not to smoke pot, at least for a little while. I wouldnt mind having some to make a joint or spliff everynow and then, but when im high im starting to get selfconciously introverted and paranoid, so i figure id take a break. Plus it will help me save money.

Kelly was a bit too tired to work, so Im covering her shift, and I work tomorrow morning, too. I havent been getting much sleep lately. This girl Im hanging out with lately is totally a night owl. Like 4, 5 in the morning. Kinda too crazy.

But secretly, im really diggin it. Its weird, because i know its not going to go anywhere. But shes hella smart, and interesting to talk to. I can talk to people, strangers, friends, and just talk talk talk (most of the time). This girl can talk, though, and tells stories that really blow your mind. Shes got a couple years on me, so shes traveled around the country a bit more and seen things i havent.

But sometime she talks too much. Oh isnt life funny.

I finally got my new cell in the mail, but it cant activate for some reason. Every time I call the activation number it gives me this error message telling me to call Sprint. That really irks me.

I set up my computer downstair and now Im sitting on my florida poarch, amazed by the speedy internet im getting. Thats a picture of Billie, but I havent figured out how to turn it right side up.

I think Im going to Pour Pauls tonight with Milo and Ryan, but since I dont have a cell phone right now, its kinda hard to plan these things. Ladies drink free, so were all going in drag. How fun, maybe ill take my camera along and put some pictures up tomorrow.

Im so excited, all the ladies i live with are comming home soon. The house will be full again, and the testosterone/estrogen balance back in equlibrium.
